Sisal is closer than most people expect. From Mérida International Airport you can be dipping your feet in the Gulf in about an hour. Here is exactly how.
Distance and driving time
Sisal sits roughly 55 km northwest of Mérida. From Mérida International Airport (MID) the drive is about 60–70 minutes; from the city center, closer to 50 minutes via the Hunucmá highway.
By rental car (recommended)
The most flexible option. Take the Mérida–Hunucmá road, then the well-paved Hunucmá–Sisal stretch. Roads are flat, safe and well signed. A rental runs about $700–$1,200 MXN/day.
By private transfer or taxi
- Private airport transfer to Sisal: approx. $1,200–$1,800 MXN one way.
- App rides (DiDi/Uber) operate in Mérida but coverage thins toward Sisal — arrange the return in advance.
By bus
Autobuses from Mérida (Noreste terminal) reach Hunucmá frequently; from there local combis continue to Sisal. Budget-friendly but slower — best if you are not carrying much luggage.
